A black cat in a paper bag

Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website and sharing our love for little feline friends.  At the Rescue Black Project, we have soft spot for the least likely to get adopted and the most frequently euthanized feline - the black cat. Based in Montross, Virginia, we provide a cage free, home-based sanctuary for rescued cats and provide them with the best possible care for as long as they are with us. Not only do we help these kittens find their loving homes and families, but we also strive to educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the therapeutic benefit of rescues as emotional support animals.

**We are currently at capacity and not accepting new kittens at this time.**

Our Adopters Say

Cat, formerly known as Cravitz, in his new home with Isabella and her family

"Our family reached out to The Rescue Black Project in January regarding a cat we saw posted for adoption. We gave them a little overview of our family situation (I.e. kids, other pets, etc.). The Rescue Black Project and their team pinged back quickly to let us know that the original cat we inquired about may not be the perfect fit for us, but recommended another cat they thought would mesh with our family dynamic. We fell in love with the cat's pics and bio and applied to adopt him. The Rescue Black Project was prompt in all their correspondence with us to make the adoption process as smooth as possible and it was clear to us that they genuinely wanted us to find a cat that was a perfect fit for our family. We were able to adopt Cravitz (now Cat) the same day our adoption application was approved. It's been months of having our new furry family member and it's been a seamless transition thanks to them! We had an amazing experience with Rescue Black Project, would 1000% adopt from them again and recommend them to a friend."
